EU and free access for everybody

The EU is not the most popular organisation, but I think it’s very important and a step in the right direction. It got a lof of criticism because of it’s lack of transparency.

A positive signal is the availability of the “Streaming Service of the Council of the European Union“. But like so many times their is a bad thing there too. Only Windows and Mac user are able to use this service.

“Our service is optimized for Windows Media Player. You can find this player on the website stated below.”

After looking at the html source of the page i found a link like this:
mms://ceu.streampower.be/ceu/archive/CEU_PRESS_CONFERENCE/ceu_video1_en_20061221_573.wmv

If you have the VLC installed, you can open this link with it and you can watch it… Even if you are using GNU/Linux. So there is no technical reason to detain GN/Linux user from watching the videos.

Would be great if anybody would send a mail (streaming.helpline@consilium.europa.eu) and demand a true free access to the media content of the EU website.
