Yet another netbook distribution?

Maybe you have heard about MeeGo (the former moblin project). It is a project undertaken by intel and nokia to create a mobile linux distribution aimed at netbook devices (and smartphones in the future).

Now they released their 1.0 version (which is not recommended for use in production systems). Ars Technica has created an article with a lot of screenshots and an nice overview of the mobile platform. If you are interested in this subject, it is a nice read!

Nokia wants to educate the Linux community

There are certain business rules [developers] need to obey, such as DRM, IPR [intellectual property rights], SIM locks and subsidised business models.

One of Nokia‘s employees said.

But Bruce Perens has an answer

But perhaps the community has some education for Jaaksi and Nokia. […] Nokia’s barking up the wrong tree this time, because Nokia can do everything it wants with DRM, IPR, and SIM locks without bothering the Linux developers about it – and both Nokia and the Linux developers will like it better that way. It’s surprising that Nokia doesn’t understand that at this late date.

An in-depth look at Qt 4.4

ArsTechnica has an interesting article about the new Qt 4.4 version.

Some of the most significant features added in Qt 4.4 include a multimedia abstraction layer, an HTML rendering widget based on WebKit, a new concurrency framework, and support for rendering widgets on the toolkit’s drawing canvas. This is also the first Qt release to include support for Windows CE and Windows Mobile.
